The Salem Express holds a tragic past. Originally built in France, this ferry tragically sank in 1991 on its way from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to Safaga, Egypt, reportedly overloaded with pilgrims returning from Hajj.
Thankfully, with the help of the Red Sea Diving Club’s commitment to responsible diving practices and respect for the site’s history, the Salem Express wreck has become a haven for marine life while serving as a somber reminder of maritime safety.

This tour is designed for experienced divers only. Minimum requirements include Advanced Diver certification (or equivalent) and extensive diving experience. Due to the wreck's depth and complexity, a strong understanding of diving procedures and excellent diving skills are essential for a safe and enjoyable experience.
This tour focuses on technical diving on the Salem Express wreck, reaching depths of up to 40 meters. Our expert diving guides will ensure a comprehensive pre-dive briefing, meticulously plan each dive considering gas mixtures and decompression requirements and guide you through the wreck with the utmost professionalism.
We provide convenient roundtrip transportation from your hotel. The journey to the dive site involves a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle ride to the port, followed by a scenic boat cruise on the Red Sea for approximately 2 hours. Enjoy a cup of tea and refreshments onboard the boat during the cruise.
A delicious lunch buffet is served onboard the dive boat in between your dives. We offer a variety of options to cater to different dietary preferences. Please inform us in advance of any specific dietary requirements you might have.
We provide all necessary technical diving equipment, including tanks, weights, BCDs, regulators, and rebreathers (if applicable). However, we recommend bringing your mask, fins, and any personal diving gear you prefer for optimal comfort and familiarity.
Absolutely! Capturing the historical significance and diverse marine life around the Salem Express wreck is a fantastic way to document your diving adventure. Please ensure your camera is in a waterproof housing suitable for technical diving depths.
