A Technical Diver’s Paradise

Closer Look at the Abu Nuhas Wrecks:

The wrecks at Abu Nuhas Reef are the main attraction for divers. Four of the five wrecks are easily accessible to recreational divers, while the fifth is too deep for regular divers.

Abu Nuhas wrecks names

 1. The Giannis D (Length: 170 meters, Depth: 24 meters):

This impressive freighter is a haven for underwater photographers. Its intricate superstructures and holds are adorned with vibrant coral formations teeming with colorful fish, crustaceans, and occasional sightings of elusive reef sharks.

 2. The Chrisoula K (Length: 98 meters, Depth: 26 meters):

Navigate through the cargo holds and engine room of this captivating wreck, encountering playful schools of anthias, bannerfish, and inquisitive moray eels.

The Chrisoula K offers a moderate technical challenge with deeper depths and penetration opportunities.

 3. The Carnatic (Length: 88 meters, Depth: 24 meters):

A historical gem, the Carnatic rests on its side, offering a glimpse into the past with remnants of its once-grand cargo, including anchors, boilers, and scattered porcelain.

The Carnatic provides a technical diving experience suitable for advanced divers seeking a historical perspective.

 4. The Lentil Wreck (Length: 120 meters, Depth: 15 meters – 32 meters):

The Kimon M holds a fascinating history. Originally named the Kimon M, this freighter was transporting a cargo of lentils from Turkey to India when it met its fate in 1978.

Thankfully, no lives were lost in the incident. Over time, the relentless sea conditions caused the wreck to shift, with its deepest point reaching just over 30 meters and its shallowest point at a comfortable 15 meters.

This depth range makes the Kimon M a popular choice for the first dive of the day, allowing for extended no-decompression limits (NDLs).
